In a world driven by data, students studying statistics and actuarial science are in high demand. Our department is home to graduate and undergraduate programs in statistics and actuarial science that help prepare students for careers spanning diverse sectors of our economy, including industry, research and government.
Students will find ample research and professional development opportunities at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Our dedicated faculty's scholarly work spans many cutting-edge areas of statistics and actuarial science, including planning statistical experiments, statistical modeling, inference and statistical consulting. Internships and graduate assistantships are available to outstanding students in the department.
As part of the department's Statistical Consulting Services (SCS), many of our graduate students gain valuable real-world experience supporting clients in research and professional work involving statistics, under the supervision of our faculty director. SCS assistance is available to NIU faculty, graduate students and administrators in addition to outside clients.
